Lucknow Super Giants’ Ayush Badoni, Prince Yadav help guide Delhi into semi-finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024
Lucknow Super Giants’ Ayush Badoni and Prince Yadav played crucial roles with the ball in the second quarter-final of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 to help Delhi beat Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, December 11.
The LSG duo claimed five wickets between them as Delhi beat Uttar Pradesh by 19 runs. Delhi had posted 193/3 with their skipper Ayush Badoni contributing 25 runs off 18 balls to help his team set a competitive target of 194 for Uttar Pradesh to chase.
Ayush Badoni then claimed the important wicket of Nitish Rana in the seventh over of the chase to reduce Uttar Pradesh to 45/3 before our new recruit Prince Yadav bagged another huge scalp of Rinku Singh at the start of the 10th over.
The Lucknow Super Giants pair weren't done yet with the ball though as Prince Yadav returned to do more damage in the 14th over when he picked up the prized wicket of Sameer Rizvi, who looked in fine form and capable of taking the game away from Delhi.
Despite Delhi being firmly on top of proceedings, Uttar Pradesh threatened to fight their way back into the contest courtesy of a partnership between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and one of our own Mohsin Khan.
The Uttar Pradesh duo stitched a 35-run stand off 18 balls for the ninth wicket before Ayush Badoni broke the partnership by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar with some help from his LSG teammate Himmat Singh, who took a neat catch.
Prince Yadav then returned to the attack and wrapped up proceedings by dismissing Vineet Panwar with the last ball of the run chase as Uttar Pradesh ended their innings by being bundled out for 174.
Ayush Badoni finished with figures of 2 for 37, while Prince Yadav ended with figures of 3 for 36 as Delhi registered a 19-run win over Uttar Pradesh to enter the semi-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.
Himmat Singh is Delhi’s third highest run-scorer in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 having accumulated 182 runs in seven games at an impressive average of 60.66, while Prince Yadav is the team’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 11 scalps in seven matches at an average of 15.90.
Ayush Badoni, Prince Yadav and Himmat Singh will now face Madhya Pradesh in the second semi-final of the 2024 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Friday, December 13.
