Lucknow Super Giants’ star cricketer David Miller scripted history as he smashed the fastest century in ICC Champions Trophy on Wednesday, March 5.

South Africa’s swashbucking batter Miller slammed an unbeaten 67-ball century against New Zealand in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final clash against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

After recording the fastest hundred in the marquee ICC tournament, Miller surpassed the previous record held by India’s Virender Sehwag (versus England at Colombo in 2002) and Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis (versus England at Lahore in 2025).

However, Miller’s century went in vain as South Africa lost to New Zealand by 50 runs in their semi-final encounter.

Earlier, New Zealand rode on twin centuries from Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (102) to post a mammoth total of 362/6 in their 50 overs.

For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi picked up three wickets while Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets.

In reply, South Africa were reduced to 167/4 in the 29th over before Miller walked in to bat. At the other end, the Proteas kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were nine down in the 46th over.

Despite losing his partners, Miller played an innings of a lifetime and later notched up his seventh hundred in the 50-over format.

The 35-year-old’s magnificent knock was laced with 10 fours and four sixes.

Miller has been a consistent performer for the Proteas in ICC ODI knockout matches. The flamboyant left-handed batter earlier scored a brilliant century (101) against Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Apart from Miller, Rassie van der Dussen (69) and captain Temba Bavuma (56) scored fifties for South Africa in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final. In the bowling department, skipper Mitchell Santner led from the front for the Kiwis with figures of 3/43.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will now face India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
