Ekana, our home, our fortress - stats and records you need to know ahead of IPL 2024
Since last season, we have been calling Lucknow’s BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium our home and the LSG boys are sure to turn it into a fortress in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign.
Established in 2017, the 50,000-capacity state-of-the-art facility is one of India’s largest cricket grounds and hosted its first international match in 2018 when India and West Indies faced off in a T20I.
It was a historic occasion, marking international cricket’s return to the wonderful city of Lucknow after almost 24 years and Rohit Sharma made it memorable with a stunning century. Since then, our Ekana have hosted several internationals across all formats and was one of the premier venues for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 held in India.
Meanwhile, we first stepped onto the hallowed greens of the Ekana on April 1, 2023 when we hosted and beat Delhi Capitals in front of our home fans. It was also the first IPL match played at the Ekana.
Heading into another season, here’s a look at the existing IPL records at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Ekana Cricket Stadium: IPL records and stats
Most runs
No surprises here, our kaptaan KL Rahul has been prolific at home, scoring 185 runs in just five innings at an impressive average of 46.25. The tally includes two half centuries.
Kyle Mayers and Krunal Pandya are joint-second on the list with 153 runs each.
Most wickets
Ravi Bishnoi leads the IPL wicket-taking charts at the Ekana, having scalped nine wickets in six innings at an average of 17.88.
Highest score by a player
Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 89 off just 47 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 is still the highest IPL score at the venue. The Aussie took apart the MI bowlers in the match, striking four boundaries and eight maximums.
Highest score by a team
In the first match we ever played at the Ekana, we posted a mammoth 193/6 against Delhi Capitals batting first, propelled by Mayers’ 38-ball 73. It still is the highest IPL score in an innings at the Ekana. We also won the match by 50 runs to register our first victory at home.
Lowest score by a team
Unfortunately, the unwanted record also belongs to us. We succumbed for just 108 while chasing 126 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023.
Best bowling figures
Interestingly, it was in the same match vs DC on April 1, 2023, Mark Wood, playing in a LSG jersey, unleashed a devastating spell with the ball to pick up 5/14. Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya fell victim to the lethal Englishman.
Till date, it remains the only fifer at the Ekana in the IPL and the best bowling figures at the venue.
Highest partnership
The record of the highest partnership at the Ekana belongs to MI’s Ishan Kishan and Sharma, who combined to put 90 runs for the opening stand when Mumbai visited us for an IPL 2023 clash.
However, the second-highest partnership, an unbeaten 82 by our very own Krunal and Stoinis came in the same match. Krunal, unfortunately, had to retire hurt while batting on 49, cutting the partnership short. Also, we ended up winning the match by five runs.
Expect the Ekana to bear witness to more record-breaking performances this season as well. Make sure you are at the venue for all of them and pre-register for your tickets NOW - http://bit.ly/49udY4J
