Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh slammed dazzling fifties, followed by an impressive bowling performance helped us beat defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a high-scoring IPL 2025 encounter at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

Put in to bat, we rode on Pooran's carnage of 87 off just 36 balls and Mitchell Marsh's 48-ball 81 to post a huge total of 238/3 in our 20 overs.

Later, our star pacers Shardul Thakur and Akash Deep picked up two wickets each, while Digvesh Rathi, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi contributed with one scalp apiece to guide us to a four-run victory in Kolkata.

Markram, Marsh provide blitzkrieg start

Our opening duo of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh got us off to a flying start. Markram slammed the first boundary of the game while Marsh clobbered the first maximum in the second over. Our dynamic duo soon hammered Spencer Johnson to accumulate 18 runs in the fourth over.

Markram and Marsh continued the onslaught as we were 59/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Our swashbuckling pair put huge pressure on the KKR bowlers as they added 99 runs for the opening wicket before Markram departed for a well-made 48 off 28 balls. His knock included four fours and two sixes.

Marsh registers fourth fifty in IPL 2025

At the other end, Marsh continued his magnificent form as he notched up his fourth fifty of the season in his fifth innings. Marsh hit Harshit Rana for a boundary in the 11th over to register his half-century off 36 balls.

Later in the 15th over, our Caribbean southpaw Nicholas Pooran soon joined the party as he clobbered his compatriot Sunil Narine for two huge sixes to amass 16 runs.

Looking to up the ante, Marsh fell for a 48-ball 81. His outstanding knock was laced with six fours and five maximums.

Nicky P’s carnage at Eden

Nicky P later smacked Rana for back-to-back sixes in the 17th over to bring up his fifty off just 21 balls.

Pooran then hammered Andre Russell for three fours and two sixes to rack up 24 runs in the 18th over.

Despite losing Abdul Samad, Pooran hit some lusty blows in the remaining overs to power us to 238/3 and record our second-highest first innings total in the IPL.

Meanwhile, Pooran remained unbeaten on 87 off 36 balls, which included seven fours and eight maximums.

Akash, Digvesh bag huge scalps

Defending 238, our star pacer Akash Deep gave us an early breakthrough as he bagged the massive wicket of KKR wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock in the third over.

Later in the seventh over, our spin sensation Digvesh Rathi dismissed his idol Sunil Narine to end a 54-run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane.

Shardul, Bishnoi provide breakthroughs

All-rounder Shardul Thakur then ended a 71-run stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer as he got rid of the opposition captain in the 13th over.

Our star leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi soon joined the party as he got the better of Ramandeep Singh.

Third W in IPL 2025

We continued to chip in wickets as Avesh Khan removed Angkrish Raghuvanshi while Akash Deep got the huge wicket of Venkatesh Iyer in the 16th over.

Shardul later claimed his second wicket of the match as dismissed Andre Russell to reduce KKR to 185/7.

With 24 needed off the final over, our starboy Bishnoi held his nerve to guide us to our third win in IPL 2025.
