LSG take centrestage on Day 1 of IPL 2025 Mega Auction after ₹27 crore purchase of Rishabh Pant
Lucknow Super Giants ended day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday with seven new purchases, including that of the one-of-a-kind Rishabh Pant, who we bought ₹27 crore as he became the most expensive player in IPL history.
The enigmatic Indian wicket-keeper, who is currently representing the national team at the ongoing Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was subject to a fierce bidding war before eventually becoming a Super Giant.
After first seeing off Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals opted to use the RTM (Right to Match) card in a bid to keep the talented wicket-keeper batter with them.
However, a whopping ₹27 crore bid - the most expensive in IPL history - ensured that Rishabh Pant will be one of our own and a cornerstone of our team in the future.
The theme of buying hard-hitting belligerent left-handers continued as South African international David Miller became our next acquisition at ₹7.5 crore. Killer Miller as he’s fondly known was our first overseas buy at the Mega Auction.
Our third buy at the auction was Miller’s countryman Aiden Markram, who we bought at his base price of ₹2 crore.
We followed up the purchase of Markram with another overseas buy in the form of Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who like Pant, is currently representing his national team at the 2024-25 Border–Gavaskar Trophy down under.
Indian pacer Avesh Khan was our first purchase on the bowling front on day 1 of the Mega Auction. After seeing off competition from Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, we secured the services of Avesh Khan with a successful bid worth ₹9.75 crore.
All-rounder Abdul Samad was our sixth buy at the Mega Auction after we successfully outbid Punjab Kings and bought him for ₹4.2 crore. Our final buy of day 1 saw us snap up wicket-keeper Aryan Juyal for his base price of ₹30 lakh.
Meanwhile, Nicky P, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni account for a combined ₹51 crore having been retained prior to the Mega Auction.
After the end of day 1, we are left with a ₹14.85 crore purse to utilise on day 2. You can follow all the action from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction on our Auction Centre.
