Aiden Markram puts up incredible all-round show but Super Giants fall short against Capitals

An impressive all-round performance by Aiden Markram went in vain as we lost to Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at our home, the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, on Tuesday.
Put in to bat, Aiden Markram slammed 52 off just 33 balls, along with contributions from Mitchell Marsh (45) and Ayush Badoni (36) to power us to 159/6 in our 20 overs.
Later, Markram picked up two crucial wickets, as our bowlers fought hard till the very end, however, it wasn't enough as the Capitals chased down the target in 17.5 overs.

Markram, Marsh show at Ekana
Our opening duo of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh got us off to a brilliant start. Markram clobbered Mitchell Starc over backward square leg for a 63-metre maximum in the second over.

However, we suffered our first blow as Markram departed for 52 in the 10th over.
Batting at No.3, Nicholas Pooran soon hammered Kuldeep Yadav for consecutive fours before he fell to Starc.
Later in the 14th over, we lost Abdul Samad and Mitchell Marsh in quick succession.
Badoni's cameo guides us to 159
Just like the previous match, Ayush Badoni came in to bat as our Impact Player in place of Marsh.
Badoni looked in great touch once again as he played some scintillating shots. He later pulled off a sensational reverse hit off Starc for a boundary in the penultimate over.

Not our day, we will bounce back
Despite best efforts from our bowlers, KL Rahul (57 not out) and Axar Patel (34 not out) later stitched an unbeaten 56-run stand for the visitors to guide them to an eight-wicket win.
What next for the Super Giants?
With 10 points from nine matches, we are still in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs, and will aim to quickly bounce back against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Brief Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 159/6 in 20 overs (Aiden Markram 52, Mitchell Marsh 45; Mukesh Kumar 4/33) lost to Delhi Capitals 161/2 in 17.5 overs (KL Rahul 57 not out, Abishek Porel 51; Aiden Markram 2/30) by 8 wickets.
