Our boys have bounced back in an emphatic style to defeat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs and register our second win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday.

Put in to bat, Mitchell Marsh smashed 60 off 31 balls while Aiden Markram scored a 38-ball 53 to power us to 203/8 in our 20 overs.

Later, we rode on an outstading bowling performance to restrict MI to 191/5 in their allotted overs to secure our first home win of the season at our fortress, the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Marsh slams dazzling fifty

Our opening duo of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram got us off to an exceptional start. Marsh continued his brilliant form as he hammered the MI bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Marsh soon notched up his third fifty of the season, this time off just 27 balls.

During his scintillating knock, Marsh smashed left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar for three fours and one six to accumulate 23 runs in the sixth over.

At the end of the first six overs, we were 69/0 courtesy of Marsh’s blitzkrieg fifty, which is our second-highest powerplay score in the IPL.

However, we then suffered our first blow as Marsh departed for 60. His impressive knock was laced with nine fours and two maximums.

Our flamboyant southpaw Nicholas Pooran looked in great touch as he clobbered Mitchell Santner for a six and a four before Pooran and captain Rishabh Pant fell in quick succession.

Markram, Badoni stitch partnership

Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni later established a crucial partnership for us. Markram played some exquisite shots which kept our momentum going.

At the other end, Badoni also joined the party as he hit Santner for three consecutive boundaries in the 14th over.

Markram, Miller power us to 203

Markram and Badoni continued playing their shots before the latter departed for 30. Later in the 17th over, Markram brought up his half-century off 34 balls, which included two fours and four sixes. He was then dismissed for 53.

In the the final few overs, our dashing left-hander David Miller hit some lusty blows as he completed the incredible milestone of 3000 runs in the IPL.

Killer Miller's significant cameo of 27 runs off 14 balls helped us post 203/8 in our 20 overs despite losing some wickets in the end.

Pacers bag early wickets

Defending 203, our debutant Akash Deep provided us with an early breakthrough as he removed Will Jacks courtesy of a well-judged catch by Ravi Bishnoi in the second over of the chase.

In the following over, our star all-rounder Shardul Thakur got rid of Ryan Rickelton in a repeat of Jacks' dismissal.

Digvesh provides crucial breakthrough

After losing two early wickets, Naman Dhir and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship for the visitors. Our mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi then provided us with the much-needed breakthrough in the ninth over as he cleaned up Naman to end their 69-run partnership.

First W at home in IPL 2025

Following Naman's dismissal, Hardik Pandya joined Suryakumar Yadav at the crease. The duo forged a 66-run partnership before our right-arm pacer Avesh Khan bagged the massive wicket of Suryakumar which brought us back into the game.

Tilak Varma showed some resistance before he retired out in the penultimate over. Meanwhile, Shardul delivered a match-defining over as he conceded just seven runs in the 19th over to put the pressure back on the visitors.

With 22 runs needed off the final over, Rishabh gave the final over to Avesh. Our fast bowler hogged the limelight as he held his nerve to guide us to a 12-run win at our home.

For his match-winning spell of 4-0-21-1, Digvesh Rathi was adjudged the Player of the Match in the high-scoring encounter in Lucknow.

With four points from four matches, we are currently placed sixth in the IPL 2025 standings.
