Our very own Marcus Stoinis is now the top T20I all-rounder in the world!

The Australian ace rose to world No. 1 in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Rankings for all-rounders. The latest standings were updated on Wednesday.

Stoinis displaced Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi at the perch thanks to his brilliant performances with Australia at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

Stoinis holds the top spot with a rating of 231 while Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga is ranked second with a rating of 222. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan jumped two spots to complete the top three after accumulating a rating of 218.

The 34-year-old has been pivotal in Australia’s group-stage campaign at the T20 World Cup. He has amassed 156 runs in three innings so far while batting at the number five spot. He is the only batter to have scored more than 150 runs at a strike rate in excess of 190 in the tournament.

Stoinis has also picked up six wickets in three innings, including a spell of 3/19 against Oman in their tournament opener. He also remained not out on 67 off 36 and won the Player of the Match award after guiding Australia to victory.

Stoinis also registered a wonderful spell of 2/9 in three overs in the match against Namibia.

A brilliant half-century also saw him walk away with the Player of the Match in Australia’s final group game against Scotland.

Stoinis and Co. are through to the Super Eight stage of the ongoing T20I World Cup. Australia will take on India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Group 1. The top two teams from each group of the Super Eight stage will advance to the semi-finals.

Leading up to the tournament in the USA and West Indies, Stoinis was also in great form during IPL 2024, where he scored 388 runs in 14 matches for us. His unbeaten 124 off 63 balls against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk was one of the most brilliant individual innings in the campaign. He also picked up four wickets this season.
