We put up a spirited performance but went down fighting against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Despite valiant efforts from our bowlers, the hosts rode on fifties from Ryan Rickelton (58) and Suryakumar Yadav (54) to post 215/7 in their 20 overs.

Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan picked up two wickets each, while the likes of Ravi Bishnoi, Prince Yadav and Digvesh Rathi bagged one scalp apiece.

Chasing 216, Ayush Badoni (35), Mitchell Marsh (34), Nicholas Pooran (27), David Miller (24) showed glimpses of brilliance, however, it wasn't enough as we fell short by 54 runs.

Mayank shines on comeback

Our pace sensation Mayank Yadav made an impressive return to cricket after he dismissed Rohit Sharma in the third over. With his change of pace, our speedster ended MI’s 33-run opening stand to provide us with an early breakthrough.

Digvesh, Prince bag crucial scalps

Later in the ninth over, Digvesh Rathi produced a brilliant over as our mystery spinner removed MI’s wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton for 58.

Our young pacer Prince Yadav soon joined the party as he cleaned up Will Jacks with a stunning yorker in the 12th over.

In the following over, our spin wizard Ravi Bishnoi outfoxed Tilak Varma to reduce MI to 137/4.

Super Giants restrict MI to 215

Mayank continued his excellent spell and later rattled opposition captain Hardik Pandya's stumps in the 16th over to claim his second wicket of the match.

Our bowlers continued to chip away with regular wickets as Avesh Khan removed Suryakumar Yadav for 54 in the 18th over. In the final over, Avesh got the better of Corbin Bosch to help us restrict MI to 215/7.

Marsh, Pooran unleash early fireworks

Chasing a challenging target, Aiden Markram slammed back-to-back boundaries in the opening over, before Mitchell Marsh clobbered Deepak Chahar for a maximum that went over the roof and out of the stadium.

However, we suffered a huge blow in the third over as in-form Markram fell to Bumrah.

Nicholas Pooran and Marsh continued the assault despite an early setback. Pooran soon hammered Chahar for a hat-trick of sixes as we were 60/1 at the end of the powerplay. Later in the seventh over, we lost Pooran and captain Rishabh Pant in quick succession.

Badoni dazzles at Wankhede

Batting at No.5, Ayush Badoni continued his impressive form as he smashed Karn Sharma for two sixes and one four to accumulate 20 runs in the 10th over.

Badoni and Marsh added 46 runs for the fourth wicket before our Australian star departed for a quick-fire 34.

Tough day in Mumbai

David Miller was drafted in as our impact sub in place of Pooran. Our hard-hitting southpaw played some scintillating shots despite losing Badoni at the other end. After Miller was dismissed for 24, we lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 161.

What next for the Super Giants?

With 10 points from 10 matches, our boys will look to return to winning ways against Punjab Kings in a crucial fixture at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala next Sunday.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 215/7 in 20 overs (Ryan Rickelton 58, Suryakumar Yadav 54; Mayank Yadav 2/40) beat Lucknow Super Giants 161/10 in 20 overs (Ayush Badoni 35, Mitchell Marsh 34; Jasprit Bumrah 4/22) by 54 runs.
