Nicholas Pooran becomes second-fastest to 2000 IPL runs

Our Caribbean southpaw, Nicholas Pooran, etched his name in history books as he became the second-fastest to complete 2000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pooran achieved the milestone during our IPL 2025 clash against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
During the match, Nicky P showcased his power-hitting capabilities as he slammed an unbeaten 87 off just 36 balls to help us post a mammoth 238/3 in our 20 overs. His blitzkrieg knock was laced with seven fours and eight maximums.

In the process, our flamboyant left-hander reached the landmark of 2000 IPL runs, having faced just 1,198 balls. Pooran is now the second-fastest to 2000 IPL runs, only behind KKR’s Andre Russell, who achieved the feat in 1,120 balls.
Having established himself as one of the most destructive batters in the league, Pooran has also been in sensational form in IPL 2025.
The 29-year-old is the leading run-scorer and the Orange Cap holder in the ongoing IPL with 288 runs in five matches at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 225, with three fifties.
Since making his IPL debut in 2019, Pooran has already amassed 2,057 runs in 81 matches at an average of 34.86 and a strike rate of 168.88. He has 12 half-centuries in the Indian T20 league.
Meanwhile, we rode on Pooran’s carnage to pip the Knight Riders by four runs in a high-scoring thriller in Kolkata.
For his match-defining knock, Pooran was adjudged the Player of the Match at the Eden Gardens.
"I have been asked this question a million times, I practise a lot and after a time everything comes naturally," Pooran said on his six-hitting ability at the post-match presentation.
