Our Caribbean superstar, Nicholas Pooran, has been named Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World for 2024.

Nicholas Pooran has been honoured as the Leading T20 Cricketer in the World in the prestigious Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2025 edition, recognising his outstanding performances in 2024.

Having played for the West Indies cricket team, Lucknow Super Giants and several other franchises across the globe, Pooran had a record-breaking year in 2024.

Pooran amassed 2,331 runs in 76 T20s in 2024 at an average of 40.89 and an impressive strike rate of 157.39. The 29-year-old southpaw slammed one century and 15 fifties in cricket’s shortest format in the calendar year of 2024.

With 2,331 runs in 76 T20s, Pooran broke the record for the most runs in a calendar year in T20 cricket. Our flamboyant left-hander surpassed Mohammad Rizwan’s record for the most runs in a calendar year in T20s. Rizwan held the previous record after scoring 2,036 runs in 48 T20s in 2021.

Earlier in 2024, Pooran also shattered the record for the most sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket. Our hard-hitting southpaw hammered 170 sixes in just 74 innings and broke legendary Chris Gayle’s nine-year-old record. Gayle was the previous record holder with 135 sixes in just 36 matches in 2015.

Meanwhile, Pooran has been in scintillating form for us in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Our swashbuckling batter has already scored 377 runs in nine matches at a staggering strike rate of 204.89, while also maintaining an average of 47.12. He has hit four fifties in the ongoing T20 tournament.

Pooran is currently placed third in the Orange Cap race, only 40 runs behind leader Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans.
