Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran signed off a magnificent year in T20 cricket with numerous records.

Having donned the jerseys of the West Indies cricket team, Lucknow Super Giants and several other franchises across the globe, Pooran accumulated 2,331 runs in 76 T20s in 2024 at an average of 40.89 and an impressive strike rate of 157.39. He slammed one century and 15 fifties in cricket’s shortest format in the calendar year of 2024.

With 2,331 runs in 76 T20s, Pooran etched his name in history books to record the most runs in a calendar year in T20 cricket. The 29-year-old flamboyant left-hander broke Mohammad Rizwan’s record for the most runs in a calendar year in T20s. Rizwan held the record after amassing 2,036 runs in 48 T20s in 2021.

Earlier in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pooran was one of the standout batters for LSG. The Trinidadian was the second-highest run-getter for the franchise in IPL 2024. He scored 499 runs in 14 matches at an average of 62.38 and a strike rate of 178.21, including three fifties.

Pooran also shattered the record for the most sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket. In 2024, the hard-hitting southpaw hammered 170 sixes in just 74 innings and broke legendary Chris Gayle’s nine-year-old record. Gayle was the previous record holder with 135 sixes in just 36 matches in 2015.

Meanwhile, Pooran also smashed the record for the most fifty-plus scores in a calendar year in T20 cricket. He recorded 16 fifty-plus scores in T20s in 2024. He surpassed former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers’ record, who notched up 15 fifty-plus scores in T20s in 2019.

Furthermore, Pooran also broke the record for the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. In the 2024 edition, the dashing left-hander clobbered 17 sixes in seven games for the West Indies, shattering another one of Gayle’s records, who hammered 16 sixes in 2016.

The LSG star recently became the most capped player for the West Indies in the T20I format. Having featured in 106 matches, Nicholas Pooran surpassed former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard’s record, who played 101 T20Is for the Caribbean outfit.
