An excellent bowling performance followed by fifties from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh helped us defeat SunRisers Hyderabad to secure our first win of the IPL 2025 season on Thursday.

Opting to bowl first, our experienced all-rounder Shardul Thakur bagged a four-wicket haul to help us restrict SRH to 190/9 in 20 overs. Later, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh slammed swashbuckling fifties to guide us to a five-wicket win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Shardul’s double strike rocks SRH

Our star all-rounder Shardul Thakur provided us a brilliant start as he dismissed Abhishek Sharma (6) and Ishan Kishan (0) in consecutive deliveries in the third over of the game.

After losing two early wickets, Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy steadied the ship for the hosts.

Prince silences Uppal crowd

Later in the eighth over, our young fast bowler Prince Yadav cleaned up Travis Head (47) to pick up his maiden wicket in the IPL.

Meanwhile, our boys chipped away with wickets as SRH wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen (26) departed after a run out. Our spin wizard Ravi Bishnoi soon joined the party as he removed Nitish Kumar Reddy (32) to reduce SRH to 128/5.

LSG bowlers win death overs battle

Our bowlers continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals as our leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi dismissed Aniket Verma (36) while Thakur got the better of Abhinav Manohar (2).

In the final few overs, Avesh Khan struck on his return as he sent Pat Cummins (18) back to the pavilion. Thakur later bagged his fourth wicket of the match to dismiss Mohammed Shami (1) to help us restrict SRH to 190/9 in their 20 overs.

With figures of 4/34, Thakur completed the milestone of 100 IPL wickets.

Pooran-Marsh deliver fireworks

Chasing 191, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh got us off to a sensational start despite losing Aiden Markram early in the chase.

Pooran and Marsh smashed the SRH bowlers to all parts of the ground as we registered 77/1 in our first six overs.

Pooran, Marsh smash fifties

Pooran continued the onslaught as he notched up his fifty off just 18 balls to record the fastest fifty in IPL 2025.

Our dynamic duo added 116 runs for the second wicket before Pooran fell for 70 off 26 balls. His blazing knock was laced with six fours and six maximums.

At the other end, Marsh continued to hammer the bowlers as he brought up back-to-back half-centuries in the ongoing IPL. He later departed for a 31-ball 52, which included seven fours and two sixes

Samad guides us to our first win

Our captain Rishabh Pant looked in great touch as he clobbered his first six as a Super Giant.

However, we soon lost Ayush Badoni and skipper Rishabh in quick succession.

With 27 needed off just 35 balls, Abdul Samad joined David Miller at the crease. Samad later played an eye-catching cameo of 22 runs off just eight balls to guide us to our first win of the IPL 2025 season.

What next for the Super Giants?

We will be heading back home and will look to continue our winning momentum against Punjab Kings on Tuesday.
